Augusta County Library recognized for inclusivity of disabled individuals

The Augusta County Library was recognized by DePaul Community Resources for its work with the intellectual and developmental disability community.

The Augusta County Library received an award much based on the hard work of Community Learning and Travelling Programmer Ben Thomas. Every Friday, he runs a Friday with Friends program at the Fishersville Library, which is an enrichment program for adults with intellectual disabilities.

The Augusta County Library strives to be inclusive of all individuals as well as support and encourage their individual growth.

The Augusta County Library is at 1759 Jefferson Hwy, Fishersville, with six additional branches and stations located in Churchville, Craigsville, Deerfield, Middlebrook, Stuarts Draft and Weyers Cave.

Rebecca J. Barnabi is the national editor of Augusta Free Press. A graduate of the University of Mary Washington, she began her journalism career at The Fredericksburg Free-Lance Star. In 2013, she was awarded first place for feature writing in the Maryland, Delaware, District of Columbia Awards Program, and was honored by the Virginia School Boards Association’s 2019 Media Honor Roll Program for her coverage of Waynesboro Schools. Her background in newspapers includes writing about features, local government, education and the arts.
