A five-month-old girl is receiving care for life-threatening injuries at UVA Medical Center, and a Culpeper couple is now behind bars charged with felony child abuse.

Brittnei Mosher, 20, and her live-in boyfriend, Alexander Lowe, 22, were denied bond, and both are currently in the Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office jail.

After an investigation, Mosher and Lowe were arrested for felony child abuse and neglect, according to police.

The child was discovered after officers with the Culpeper Police Department responded to the 640 block of Mountain View Drive for a reported domestic disturbance on Thursday. While on the scene, an officer observed injuries to the infant that required immediate medical intervention.

The child was transported to UVA-Culpeper Medical Center and later transferred to the UVA Medical Center in Charlottesville.

Culpeper Police Department detectives and Child Protective Services responded to the hospital as part of the investigation. The child has been placed in protective custody.

This investigation is ongoing. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Detective K. Payne at (540) 829-5530 or [email protected].
