Charlottesville: Man charged in shooting on 6th Street basketball court to serve five years in prison

A Charlottesville judge sentenced a man in connection with a shooting that occurred March 5 on a basketball court on 6th Street in the city.

Eric Dweh was sentenced by Charlottesville Circuit Court Judge Claude V. Worrell to 18 years in prison Tuesday for attempted malicious wounding, possession of a firearm by a previously convicted felon and a probation violation. The judge suspended 13 years leaving an active five-year prison sentence.

Dweh was one of four males taken into custody related to the shooting incident. Few details have been provided on the victim or circumstances around the shooting.

Zymir Jakai Brown was taken into custody on March 19 and charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Two male juveniles were also taken into custody related to the incident – one on March 13 and one on March 14.

The case was prosecuted by Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney Nina-Alice Antony.
