The Community Attention Youth Internship Program (CAYIP) is seeking applications from local youth aged 14-21 years old to participate in a paid internship experience for six weeks this summer. The program anticipates hosting 150 teens this year.
Youth learn practical workplace readiness skills through hands on learning at a variety of career paths that include working with government services, culinary arts, child-care, elderly-care, landscaping, cosmetology, and customer service. They also identify their strengths and connect to other positive adult mentors in the community. Youth are expected to work 20 hours a week for the six-week program.
“This program made a difference in my life by getting used to listening to different people and learning different skills,” says Shyanne Jones, Buford Middle School student and former participant. “I would recommend it to others because it helps get you ready for working in a job.”
In addition to cultivating youth potential, CAYIP aims to support local business, schools and organizations by providing additional help.
“We are excited about all the new site partnerships we have lined up for the summer and we are looking forward to a meaningful and impactful summer internship experience,” says Annie Sechrist, CAYIP Coordinator.
The program kicks-off on June 24 with CAYIP ACADEMY; a week long training program that blends guests speakers, leadership building games, and curriculum so they are prepared for success when they begin their on-site experience. The program culminates with a graduation ceremony on August 2.
CAYIP is primarily geared toward city-residents; however, there are a small number of scholarships available to youth who live in the outlying counties. The deadline to apply to the program is April 30 by 5pm. Applications can be found on the website:
