bridgewater collegeEnrollment at Bridgewater College is higher than at any other time in its history, with the college’s office of institutional research reporting overall total enrollment at 1,894.

Bridgewater is also welcoming its largest-ever incoming class of 601 freshmen for the 2016-2017 academic year.

“The college’s ability to grow our enrollment while maintaining the academic strength of our incoming students is an indicator that the quality and value of a Bridgewater education is earning broader attention in the very competitive landscape of higher education,” said President David W. Bushman. “Additions to our historically robust commitment to the liberal arts, highlighted by the dedication of our Center for Engaged Learning and the upcoming launch of the college’s first graduate program, reflect our ongoing investment in the success of our students. Our strong enrollment indicates these initiatives are resonating with prospective students and their families across the state and around the region.”

Of the 601 first-time freshmen arriving at Bridgewater in 2016, 32 percent are from out of state and 31 percent are from diverse backgrounds. Women make up 54 percent of the class.

The top five academic majors among freshmen at BC are business administration, biology, athletic training, health and exercise science, and psychology.

Bridgewater College is a private, four-year liberal arts college located in the Central Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Founded in 1880, it was the state’s first private, coeducational college. Today, Bridgewater College is home to nearly 1,900 undergraduate students.
