One new death and two new hospitalizations have been linked to the Boar’s Head deli meat Listeria outbreak, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Sept. 25 update.

The CDC updated its numbers on Wednesday, and with the three additions, the numbers have grown to 10 deaths and 59 hospitalizations in 19 states.

The additional death was reported in New York.

Deaths have occurred in Virginia, Illinois, New Jersey, Florida, Tennessee, New Mexico and South Carolina.

The CDC said illness reports have started to decrease. However, it can take up to 10 weeks for some people to have symptoms of listeriosis, and some of the products had sell-by dates into October.

The deadly Listeria strain was linked to liverwurst produced at its Jarratt plant. Boar’s Head announced this month that due to the seriousness of the outbreak, the Jarratt facility would indefinitely close. The plant had not been operational since late July when the deadly Listeria strain was linked to the plant.

Boar’s Head announced it will permanently discontinue production of liverwurst in response to the outbreak. The Jarratt facility was the only plant that produced liverwurst.

To date, three lawsuits have been filed against Boar’s Head related to the outbreak.
