Veterans interested in attending Virginia Tech can apply for free – one of the many resources available to prospective students as well as current students and employees who are veterans.
The initiative to waive the $60 application fee for veterans was suggested by three veterans employed by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions: Alphonso Garrett, Jr., Gary Jackson, and Christopher St. Jean. Combined, these military admissions professionals have over 55 years of military experience and 35 years of experience in higher education, truly epitomizing the university’s motto: Ut Prosim (That I May Serve).
St. Jean, a retired colonel and assistant director of admissions, is designated as the veteran liaison for undergraduate admissions.; and there is a handbook available online to help veterans navigate the transition to the university as well as with their available veterans benefits.
“The Office of Undergraduate Admissions values the service, mindset, and mission orientation of our nation’s veterans, said St. Jean. “We are dedicated to supporting a seamless admissions process for our veterans who are transitioning to Virginia Tech to achieve their educational goals.”
For veterans applying as transfer students to Virginia Tech, undergraduate admissions offers several opportunities to engage and assist, including an instant decision day on February 12, 2016; a priority review process for veteran applicants; or a simple phone call and conversation.
