Baltimore takes series opener at Boston

baltimore oriolesJonathan Schoop and Manny Machado homered in support of a strong outing by Chris Tillman in a 3-2 Baltimore win at Boston Tuesday night.

The Orioles (37-26) took a one-game lead over the Red Sox (36-27) in the American League East with the win in the opener of the three-day weekday series.

Tillman (9-1, 2.87 ERA) struck out seven and walked two in seven innings of work, allowing one run on five hits.

Zach Britton (20 saves, 0.96 ERA) struck out four in one and two-thirds scoreless innings to close out the win for the O’s.

Machado (.307/.375/.606) hit a two-run homer in the first to get Baltimore out to the early lead. Schoop (.269/.300/.467) went deep in the eighth.
