Baltimore rallied from an early 4-0 deficit to post an 8-6 win over Tampa Bay Saturday night, completing a doubleheader sweep.
The Rays (31-42), now losers of 10 straight, led 4-0 in the third, and it took a diving Adam Jones catch on a sinking liner off the bat of Jaff Decker with the bases loaded and two outs in the top of the third to keep it there.
A two-run homer by Matt Wieters (.278/.332/.471, 9 HR, 37 RBI), one of two Wieters’ homers in the game, highlighted a three-run bottom of the third that got the O’s (44-30) back into the game.
It would be a back-and-forth affair from there, with the Orioles inching closer on solo homers by Adam Jones (.254/.301/.455, 15 HR, 47 RBI) and Chris Davis (.236/.351/.487, 17 HR, 46 RBI), tying and then taking the lead in the seventh on RBI singles by Jones and Davis, and getting an insurance run in the eighth with Wieters’ second homer of the night.
Baltimore starter Chris Tillman (10-1, 3.52 ERA) got a no-decision after giving up six runs on 10 hits in five innings, striking out two and walking two.
T.J. McFarland (2-2, 4.70 ERA) got the win in relief, giving up three hits in two scoreless innings.
Zach Britton (23 saves, 0.83 ERA) earned the save with a scoreless ninth.
