The 2024 Virginia Farm Bureau Federation Young Farmers Excellence in Agriculture Award was given to Augusta County‘s Morgan Slaven in late July 2024.

Last Tuesday, Slaven took delivery of the prize associated with her award: a new Kubota utility vehicle sponsored by Virginia Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Co.

The Excellence in Agriculture Award recognizes individuals and couples for support of agriculture, leadership ability, and involvement and participation in Farm Bureau and other organizations.

Slaven also received a cash prize and a travel package to the 2025 American Farm Bureau Federation Annual Convention in San Antonio in January 2025. While at the convention she will compete for the AFBF Young Farmers & Ranchers Excellence in Agriculture Award.

Slaven cares for a 40-head commercial hair sheep flock and manages governance and executive affairs for Shenandoah Valley Electric Cooperative. She also represents young farmers in Augusta, Amherst, Bath, Highland, Nelson and Rockbridge counties on the VFBF Young Farmers Committee. She is the committee’s vice chair and promotions subcommittee chair, as well as vice president of Augusta County Farm Bureau and chair of that organization’s Young Farmers Committee.
