Ag trade conference speakers to tout export opportunities

newspaperCreating opportunities and facilitating great growth with other countries are two of the main focuses of this year’s annual Governor’s Agricultural Trade Conference, which will be held March 9 and 10 at the Richmond Marriott.

For the sixth consecutive year, Virginia’s governor will report on the growth of agricultural exports and efforts to continue cultivating trade relations with other countries.

“Every year this conference just gets bigger, and we believe that’s a testament to the continuing growth in Virginia’s agricultural exports,” said Spencer Neale, commodity marketing director for the Virginia Farm Bureau Federation, one of the event’s organizers. “It’s always exciting to hear the export numbers announced and to learn more about fostering new trade relations and strengthening existing ones.”

Also slated to speak is Canada’s Ambassador Gary Doer, who will discuss opportunities for Virginia to increase agricultural trade with his country. Additionally, Indonesian Ambassador Budi Bowoleksono will talk about removing obstacles to trade between the United States and Indonesia.

Darci Vetter, chief U.S. agriculture negotiator, will provide updates on agricultural trade negotiations; American Farm Bureau Federation Chief Ag Economist Bob Young will give an ag economics update; and U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack will discuss the importance of farm exports from a national perspective.

Registration ends Feb. 23. Visit signup4.net/Public/ap.aspx?EID=GOVE77E to register or get conference details.
