JMU women’s lacrosse enters IWLCA Coaches Poll at No. 20

jmu logoWith two victories last week, the James Madison women’s lacrosse team jumped into the Top 20 of the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Poll with 34 points. The poll was released Monday afternoon.

The Dukes have improved their standing in the poll each of the first three weeks it’s been released this season, as JMU did not receive any votes in the preseason edition of the poll before notching votes last week.

JMU has opened the 2015 season with a 2-1 mark. The Dukes picked up back-to-back wins over Virginia Tech and UConn in their last two contests after dropping a hard-fought game in their season-opener on Feb. 1 against No. 2 North Carolina.

Additionally, Madison has received votes in each of the first three editions of the Brine Media Poll this season. Released earlier Monday, JMU stood strong at No. 22 in the poll behind Southern California (USC). It marks the second week in a row the Dukes have been at No. 22 behind USC in the poll.

JMU returns to action Sunday, Feb. 22, at University Park when it will host High Point. The contest, which is the first meeting all-time between the two programs, is set for 1 p.m. Admission to each game this season at University Park is free. The first 100 fans through the gates at Sunday’s game will receive a voucher for a free hot dog from the concession stand. Gates open one hour prior to the opening draw.
