sam rasoulRoanoke Democratic Del. Sam Rasoul joined other legislators in the General Assembly to co-found the Ben Franklin Liberty Caucus.

The caucus is dedicated to protect the privacy and liberty of Virginians against unnecessary intrusion by government agencies and law enforcement. The bipartisan, bicameral group of legislators in the caucus share a commitment to the effective implementation of privacy policies endorsed by the Virginia General Assembly when it passed the Government Data Collection and Dissemination Practices Act.

“I’ve always been a supporter of greater government transparency and as legislators we need to do all we can to make sure the privacy rights of the citizens of the Commonwealth are protected,” Rasoul said. “Shining the light on government data collection practices and policy and ensuring that law enforcement agencies are conforming to the Data Practices Act will ensure that people’s personal data are adequately secure.”

The caucus was announced by Del. Rich Anderson and Sen. Chap Petersen. Other co-founders include Del. Betsy Carr, Del. Scott Lingamfelter, Del. Bob Marshall, Del. Ben Cline, Del. Scott Surovell, Del. Todd Gilbert and Sen. Donald McEachin.
