ACC Football: Players of the Week for Week 4, with one inexcusable admission

It’s like the select media panel in charge of the ACC Football weekly honors is just messing with us, picking a guy with 14 missed passes to be the QB of the week over another guy who was 24-of-28 with four TDs.

UVA signal-caller Beau Pribula also ran for a fifth TD, but whatever, because some kid from Stanford not named John Elway or Andrew Luck had a big game against reeling Georgia Tech.

These people need to show their faces, though, I’m reminded of the saying, be careful what you wish for.

We are talking about sports media personalities here.

ACC Football Players of the Week: Week 4

QB: Davis Warren, Stanford

  • Completed 22-of-36 passes for a career-high 396 passing yards with three touchdowns and zero turnovers in the win over Georgia Tech.

Running back: Jeffrey Overton Jr., Virginia Tech

  • Rushed 25 times for a career-high 209 yards and a touchdown in the 21-14 win at Boston College.

Receiver: Carlos Hernandez, Wake Forest

  • Logged nine receptions for 194 yards and a touchdown in Wake Forest’s 30-27 road win over #16 Louisville.

O line: Teague Andersen, NC State

  • The PR from the ACC tells us he “graded out at a team-high 93 percent” in the 41-31 win over App State, without giving us a source for the grading. Pro Football Focus gave him a 62.9 grade, which ranked 185th among the 407 O linemen who played at least 60 snaps last week.

D line: Gabe Kirschke, Wake Forest

  • Recorded three tackles along with two sacks and the game-ending blocked field goal late in the fourth quarter in Wake’s 30-27 upset of Louisville.

Linebacker: Matt Rose, Stanford

  • Led Stanford in total tackles with 11, including eight solo stops, and 2.5 tackles for loss, in the win over Georgia Tech.

Defensive back: Elliot Washington II, Clemson

  • Recorded two interceptions (on the only two pass targets that he faced) in Clemson’s road ACC win at Cal.

Special teams: Bryant Wesco Jr., Clemson

  • Recorded a 65-yard go-ahead punt return touchdown in Clemson’s win at Cal.

Rookie: Demetrice McCray, WR, Pitt

  • Caught three passes for 73 yards and two touchdowns in Pitt’s 59-0 victory over Bucknell. Which is to say, the rookies didn’t do much last week.
