A Charlottesville man already under indictment in a child sex case is facing fresh charges involving the alleged assault of federal cops.
Gustavo Qunitero, 25, was indicted on Wednesday by a federal grand jury three counts of assault on federal law enforcement officers, per a release.
Qunitero was indicted in December on two counts of coercion and enticement of a minor, one count of sexual exploitation of a minor, and one count of possession of child pornography, and charged a second time in February with assaulting a federal law enforcement officer.
The indictment handed down yesterday involves both the original assault allegation and two additional counts of assault on law enforcement officers in April.
“The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Virginia maintains a zero-tolerance policy for assault on law enforcement officers,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert N. Tracci said today. “Anyone who assaults a federal law enforcement officer will be arrested and prosecuted to the maximum extend of the law.”
According to the indictment, agents with Homeland Security and ICE, along with officers from the Albemarle County Police Department, traveled to the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail on Jan. 15 to execute a federal arrest warrant on Quintero.
During an interaction with Quintero, he is said to have spit directly into the face of one of the agents.
Quintero is also alleged to have assaulted officers at the Western Virginia Regional Jail in April.
