The Harrisonburg Police Department has increased patrols after multiple vehicle break-ins overnight in the area of Blue Stone Hills Drive, Emerald Drive and Purple and Gold Way.

HPD has responded to reports of approximately 30 incidents starting Wednesday night through Thursday morning.

In the majority of these incidents, vehicles were left unlocked and valuables such as electronics, wallets, purses and personal items were left in plain view or in a glove compartment or center console.

“We are urging all community members and visitors to lock their vehicle doors and remove valuables whenever they leave their cars unattended,” said Jason Kidd, HPD captain. “Crimes of opportunity like these can often be prevented with simple precautions.”

The department is actively working to identify suspects through surveillance footage and community tips. Neighbors and those living close by are encouraged to check their home security cameras and doorbell cameras for footage of the offenders.

Even small pieces of information can be extremely helpful in identifying suspects and preventing further incidents.

If you notice anything suspicious or relevant, please report it to HPD as soon as possible.

Anyone with information on this case, including possible camera footage of the suspects, is encouraged to call Crime Solvers at (540) 574-5050 or visit www.harrisonburgva.gov/tip-411.
