October Movie Madness

Wednesdays at 3 PM
We will feature a family friendly scary movie and a snack every Wednesday in October. Halloween week we will feature daily movies Monday – Thursday.

Meditation for Inner Peace

All over the world, many people are turning to meditation to help them lead a more peaceful and healthy life-style. Scientific studies have proven that the practice of meditation reduces stress and anxiety, as well as decreases the risk of disease. Learn how meditation can bring a healing power to help you in all spheres of your life. Gerry Gorman will share a simple, yet powerful technique that will be explained and practiced during the session.

Teen Game Nights

Friday, October 4, 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Video games, board games, and card games. And, most importantly, pizza! Ages 12-18.

Scams & Identity Theft

Tuesday, October 8, 10:30 AM
Scammers try to collect your information to apply for credit cards, withdraw money from your bank account, steal your identity, or to sell your info to others. A representative from the local Better Business Bureau (BBB) will share the latest information on how you can protect yourself from scams and identity theft.

Midday Music: Valley Harmony Chorus

Wednesday, October 9, 12:00 p.m.
This octet of ladies from Staunton, Harrisonburg and Waynesboro perform songs arranged in four-part harmony known as barbershop. Light lunch provided.

Blanket Blockbuster

Enjoy a family friendly movie while the kids have a day off from school.

Library Brewery Trivia

Wednesday, October 16
7:00 PM located at Seven Arrows
Join us at Seven Arrows Brewery for an evening of craft beer and trivia fun hosted by the Valley Libraries. Teams can consist of up to six adults. Prizes will be given to the first and second place teams.
For ages 21 and up. The trivia is free–beer and food are on you!

Youth Resilience and Our Community

Wednesday, October 23rd, 6:00 p.m.
Please join us for an evening screening of Paper Tigers and discussion. Paper Tigers documents one high school’s unlikely success story after the entire community came together to support its students with adverse childhood experiences (ACEs).  The film will be followed by a high level panel discussion of how YOU can help support these students in our local community.

The Haunted Library

Saturday, October 26, 6:30 – 8:30 PM
Welcome back to another Halloween in Archville… stay on guard as things have been turned a bit Upside Down. Please be advised, some themes may be too scary for children. The Children’s Area will be open for parents with little children. The event is free with a suggested donation of $1.00. Proceeds from the Haunted Library go to the Friends of the Library to support library programs.

Bark & Boo

Tuesday, October 29, 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Come in costume and read to our Positive Paw therapy dogs, as we play games, make some crafts, and have a treat.

Monthly- Second Thursdays at 4:00 p.m.
Read a novel, then meet with others to discuss. Ask at the circulation desk to check out a copy of the book-of-the-month.

Nonfiction Book Club

Monthly- Fourth Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m.
Our new nonfiction book club will read and discuss nonfiction books. Ask for your copy at the circulation desk or check out our e-library.

Great Decisions Discussion Group

2nd Mondays, October 14, 1:30 p.m.
If you enjoy the Foreign Policy Association’s Great Decisions on PBS, this is the group for you. Read 10-13 page article in the Great Decisions Briefing Book (available in the library), then meet to discuss. The October topic will be “The United States and Mexico: Partnership Tested”.

A story, a bedtime snack, and a chance to practice those reading skills with friendly, attentive therapy dogs from Positive Paws.

9:30 a.m., Mother Goose Time
Mother Goose Time is an interactive program featuring songs, fingerplays, books, movements, and nursery rhymes for children from birth through age three and their caregivers.

10:30 a.m., Story Time
Story Time features books, stories, songs, puppets, flannel board activities, and crafts for children ages three through five accompanied by an adult.

Thursday

9:30 a.m., Mother Goose Time
Mother Goose time is an interactive program featuring songs, finger-plays, books, movements, and nursery rhymes for children from birth through age three and their caregivers.

10:30 a.m., Story Time
Story Time features books, stories, songs, puppets, flannel board activities, and crafts for children ages three through five accompanied by an adult.

4:00 p.m., Masterminds
STEAM discovery labs for all ages. Science, Art, and building, and more, tailored to the ages in attendance each week.
