svacThe Shenandoah Valley Art Center, during the month of October, is exhibiting the second Members’ Judged Show of 2013.  Members of the art center compete for awards ranging from Best in Show to honorable mentions. This year’s judge is Jeffrey Stockberger, a graduate of James Madison University with a degree in painting and art history who studied figure painting at the Corcoran Museum, College of Art and Design.  He is a working artist operating out of his Port Republic studio and teaching at the Beverley Street Studio School in Staunton, VA.   In the Docent Room, do not miss the artwork of Pat Garnett, renowned watercolor artist and SVAC Saturday Art for Kids instructor. An Opening Reception will be held October 5, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. and the public is encouraged to come and meet the artists while viewing one of the most popular exhibits of the year

Don’t miss the 42st Fall Foliage Festival Art Show!  This is the biggest juried fine art event that the art center sponsors each year. Approximately one hundred and fifty artists from across the country will bring their artwork to downtown Waynesboro on October 12 and 13.  Exhibits will open 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Saturday and 12 – 5 p.m. on Sunday with free admission and parking. EMERGE, makes its debut highlighting emerging and local artists under one large tent. A new component featuring local food trucks, the Cupcake Company and Carpe Donuts, along  with Blue Ridge Beverage‘s selection of craft beers will expand food selections at the show. Roots music has been added with local favorites Hound Dog Hill and Yankee Dixie being among the featured bands. Face painting for kids, an interactive art project for visitors, live painting, roving musicians, street performers, and a day culminating with an awards ceremony for the artists are just a few of the features resulting from a partnership between the Art Show and Waynesboro Down Town Development, Inc.  Recently, the show was voted one of the top three art events in Virginia by “Virginia Living” readers.

Please join us for free studio events. SVAC hosts on each second and fourth Thursday, 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., an Artist’s Playground meeting and third Thursdays the Art Trading Card group meets.
