State Sen. Dave Marsden (D-Fairfax) announced legislation to promote gun owner responsibility. Together, the two bills will make it substantially harder for criminals or the mentally ill to obtain the type of dangerous weapons used to commit mass killings in Aurora, Colo., Newtown, Conn., and countless other American cities.

One in three households own a gun. That means two in three don’t. Wonder what that might mean? The U.S. Senate last night passed the National Defense Authorization Actfor Fiscal Year 2013, which includes numerous defense and national-security initiatives long advocated by Sen. Jim Webb (D-Va.). The bill, approved by a vote of 98-0, will now be conferenced with the House Armed Services Committee.
