The VMI Keydets had cut a double-digit deficit down to just one with under five minutes to go, thanks to five straight points by Stan Okoye, but the Army Black Knights answered with a 6-0 run and went on to defeat the Keydets, 80-74, in the third-place game of the All-Military Classic, contested Sunday in Charleston, S.C.

In a key Colonial Athletic Association football matchup, #9 James Madison got off to a slow start that it could not overcome with a fourth-quarter rally in a 35-20 loss at #21 Villanova, Nov. 10. With the defeat, the Dukes fell to 7-3 and 5-2 in CAA play, while the Wildcats improved to 7-3 and 5-2 in league action.

The Virginia women’s basketball team opened the season with a 78-57 victory over James Madison. Sophomore forward Sarah Imovbioh had a double double with 21 points and 10 rebounds in her collegiate debut.

I guess we could call November the Radio Hour’s month of the woman. Chrystal McKee brings Angel Love to life in the third chapter of A. Love Diary along with Boomie Pedersen. And both are joined by Marsha Howard. And headlining the musical talent is Lorie Strother. What a list of female talent!

This month, I’ve got some of my favorite acts on the show. The Judy Chops have been around Staunton for a few years. They are young, talented, hip and and true show dogs. The last time they were on the show, folks of all age groups became groupies. They play everything from tunes from “The Jungle Book” to Retro Hip Hop.

The George Allen Senate campaign is on the air Thursday with a new TV ad attacking Tim Kaine on coal. The spot, titled “Pie Chart,” highlights a 2009 speech in which Kaine explained his commitment to make coal a smaller part of our nation’s energy resources.

After last year’s pre-Halloween trick from Mother Nature (a rare October snow storm affecting most of the Northeast which followed a hurricane and earthquake in the Commonwealth), one would think our area would be due for a treat this year. Unfortunately, Mother Nature has another trick up her sleeve this year by the name of Hurricane Sandy.
