Kevin Chisnell has booked Roddy Barnes for a “rare and exclusive “evening at WTA’s Gateway on Saturday, February 16, at 8 pm. Chisnell says the evening will have “some of the sweetest blues piano you’ve ever heard. It will be the toe tappinest, hip shakinest, and back beatinest Mojo Saturday Night ever.”

Stan Okoye had 34 points and 16 rebounds, but the UNC Asheville Bulldogs held the rest of the VMI Keydets to just 45 points and used a 22-4 second half run to pull away for a 90-79 win in Big South basketball action Friday night at Cameron Hall in Lexington, Va. The game was played in front of the seventh-largest crowd in Cameron Hall history, 4,117 spectators, and was also shown on ESPNU national television, the first ESPN televised game at Cameron Hall since 1997.

The Commonwealth’s 4 p.m. Burning Law goes into effect Feb. 15th – the start of spring fire season in Virginia. The law prohibits burning before 4 p.m. each day until April 30th if the fire is in, or within 300 feet of, woodland, brushland or fields containing dry grass or other flammable materials.

Long a poster child of environmental ills and health concerns, McDonald’s has worked steadily over the last two decades to clean up its act. The company will never win over vegetarians, who eschew meat for health, animal welfare and even world hunger concerns (we’d feed more people by using the land used to grow animal feed to grow food for people instead), but it has otherwise made some significant strides.

Fear can be a powerful influence in our lives. A healthy fear of something that is harmful may keep us safe. Fear of the unknown can cause helpful caution or limit our perspective. Too often fear can be misused to manipulate the actions of others. In Richmond as elsewhere, fear is evident and at work in many aspects of the legislative process.

Davis (Columbus, Ohio/Harmony Community School) caught fire from the arc for seven second-half three-point field goals as part of a 27-point night to lead JMU past William and Mary, 81-71, in a Colonial Athletic Association men’s basketball game on Wednesday night at the JMU Convocation Center.

Shenandoah National Park Fire Managers are planning a prescribed fire in the headquarters area near Luray in February. Ignition of prescribed fire is dependent on favorable weather conditions. Burn piles scattered over two acres will be ignited. Smoke from the burn may be visible from Route 211.
