James Hoyt pitched four scoreless innings out of the bullpen for Lynchburg. Hoyt has now gone 16.1 consecutive innings without allowing a run.

The seventh-ranked Virginia baseball team swept a doubleheader against fifth-ranked Florida State Saturday at Davenport Field, running away with a 9-2 victory in game one before one-hitting the Seminoles, 2-0, in the nightcap. Virginia (34-6, 15-5 ACC) swept a doubleheader for the first time in program history against Florida State (31-8, 13-7) while clinching its sixth ACC series win in seven tries this year.

The teams combined to leave 27 runners on base in a game that lasted three hours, 58 minutes, but in the end, a long single by VCU Ram Jordan Weymouth scored Joey Cujas to give VCU a 5-4 win over the VMI Keydets in non-conference baseball action Wednesday at The Diamond in Richmond, Va. The contest was the series finale between the clubs, as the squads split the season series at two games apiece.

The Lynchburg Hillcats broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the eighth with an RBI-single from David Rohm to earn a 3-2 win over the Potomac Nationals on Friday night at City Stadium. Rohm also went deep for the first time this season with a solo shot in the second. The bullpen stayed stellar with four shutout innings of relief to keep the ‘Cats in the game and eventually pick up the win.

The 500-acre Jarman Gap prescribed burn in Shenandoah National Park was successfully completed on Wednesday and Thursday, April 10-11. Assistant Fire Management Officer John Fry reported that “prescribed fire objectives were achieved.” Fry added that local residents and visitors will continue to see smoke from within the burn area over the next several days.

Shenandoah National Park fire managers plan to burn 500 acres in the park’s south district on April 10, 2013. The ignition of the fire is dependent on weather conditions. The burn area is located west of Jarman Gap and northeast of Waynesboro, Virginia.
