The Murphy Deming College of Health Sciences reached a crucial benchmark this week in pursuit of full accreditation by the internationally recognized Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE), allowing students to be accepted into Mary Baldwin’s Doctor of Physical Therapy program.

A neighborhood health event, Healthy Connections, will be held on Thursday, Dec. 12 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Waynesboro Boys & Girls Club. The event is a cooperative project of Augusta Health, Augusta Free Clinic, the Boys and Girls Club, Med Assist, Enroll Virginia, the Valley Community Services Board, and local providers.

The community may soon add a new verb to their vocabulary: geek. The Valley Libraries Consortium consisting of Augusta County Library, Staunton Public Library, and Waynesboro Public Library will be participating in Geek the Library, a community‐based public awareness campaign.

The Shenandoah Valley Art Center, during the month of December, is exhibiting the watermedia paintings of Staunton artist, Billie Rosenburger, whose mediations on color yield cheerful bright imagery. An Opening Reception and Artist Talk will be held Dec. 7, 6-8 p.m., and the public is encouraged to come and meet the artist.

DuPont Community Credit Union (DCCU) was recently recognized with three awards for service to the local community from both the Virginia Credit Union League and the Credit Union National Association (CUNA). DCCU was ranked first in the state with a Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Recognition Award for DCCU’s impact on the local community.

Waynesboro YMCA member Tina Ruszala has been homeschooling her three children for more than five years. As in any homeschool community, the parents involved work together to provide different education and socializing experiences. One thing has been missing among local homeschool families in the Waynesboro area.

Close to 10 percent of the Fishburne Military School cadet corps is international students like Cho. Admissions director Cedrick Broadhurst said international families look at FMS “because we offer the discipline, the respect, the things they need to be able to succeed in life.”
