Woodland certification workshop set for Augusta County landowners

Landowners interested in learning more about the benefits of having their woodlands certified are invited to an evening workshop Tuesday, December 3, at the Augusta County Government Center in Verona. The three-hour workshop, which will run from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., costs $20 per person with dinner provided.

Virginia Gov.-elect Terry McAuliffe announced on Monday his choices for four key senior administration positions: Paul Reagan as Chief of Staff, Suzette Denslow as Deputy Chief of Staff, Secretary Ric Brown, who will stay on through at least the passage of the upcoming budget as Secretary of Finance, and Levar Stoney as Secretary of the Commonwealth.

This exercise program is actually a fall prevention program, but it is not billed as such since seniors sometimes tend to avoid “fall prevention programs” (I’m not old, I don’t fall).

Following an extensive national search, Bridgewater College has selected Dr. Maureen Silva to join the College as vice president for institutional advancement. Silva, who comes to Bridgewater with a broad background in higher education development and fundraising, will begin on Feb. 1, 2014.

Gov. Bob McDonnell announced Virginia College Application Week (VCAW) at 32 Virginia high schools and proclaimed Nov. 18-22 College Application Week in the Commonwealth. This initiative is designed to provide graduating high school seniors with information and resources about the college admissions process.

Bridgewater College Symphonic Band remembers composer Elliot Del Borgo

The Bridgewater College Symphonic Band will present a concert on Sunday, Nov. 17, at 3 p.m., in Cole Hall. The concert is free and open to the public. The Symphonic Band is directed by Dr. Christine Carrillo, assistant professor of music and director of instrumental music at Bridgewater College.

Opinion: What McAuliffe must do on voting rights restoration

We commend Gov. McDonnell for loosening the Commonwealth’s grip on its felony disenfranchisement law. But we need to do more. We hope that Gov.-elect Terry McAuliffe will build on that progress by establishing a truly automatic restoration process for all Virginia citizens who have lost those voting rights due to a felony conviction.

Augusta Aquatics pool builder to speak at Roanoke construction conference
