U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine called on his colleagues on the bipartisan Budget Conference Committee to “surprise the cynics” to compromise and agree on a federal budget for 2013-2014. Senate colleague Mark Warner said at the body’s first meeting on Wednesday that he wants to end the recent fiscal practice of lurching from crisis to crisis.

Staunton awarded Green Government Certification by Virginia Municipal League

The Virginia Municipal League recently recognized the City of Staunton as a certified “Green Government.” The certification resulted from the city’s participation in the 2013 VML Green Government Challenge, part of VML’s larger Go Green Virginia environmental initiative, a friendly competition among local governments in Virginia.

Aging In Place and CDSME Discussed on Radio

Issues In Aging radio show discussed issues related to healthy aging with Robin Hawks, Joyce Nussbaum, and Sharon Strang. Robin Hawks, Blue Ridge Community College, discussed the Aging in Place program which began this fall. The certificate program is designed to help students better understand the needs of older adults from multiple aspects.
