Patients are more likely to take chronic medications when they meet monthly with pharmacists to coordinate medication schedules and treatments, according to a Virginia Commonwealth University study. The study, published in the November/December issue of The Journal of the American Pharmacists Association (JAPhA®), described how patient adherence and persistence with chronic medications can be improved.

McDonnell’s budget to provide $55 million in funding for public safety

Gov. Bob McDonnell announced on Friday that his biennial budget will provide $55.3 million in targeted funding to support public safety around Virginia. The governor’s budget proposals include $22.2 million for sheriffs, Commonwealth’s Attorneys, and Circuit Court Clerk Deputies.

Elementary and secondary art teachers from Harrisonburg and Rockingham County public schools will exhibit “Artists Who Teach Art” Jan. 2 – Feb. 5 in the Cleo Driver Miller Art Gallery at Bridgewater College. An artists’ reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3 in the Miller Gallery. The reception and exhibition are open to the public at no charge.

Two Virginia schools in top five of Kiplinger’s ‘Best Values in Public Colleges’

Two Virginia public universities are ranked in the Top 5 of Kiplinger Magazine’s annual ranking of the “Best Values in Public Colleges.” The University of Virginia was ranked second, while The College of William and Mary stayed at number four. Five other Virginia universities also ranked in the magazine’s top 100, including James Madison University (22), Virginia Tech (27), The University of Mary Washington (61), George Mason University (72), and Christopher Newport University (84).

McDonnell proposes $11M for Richmond slavery and freedom heritage site

Bob McDonnell has directed $11 million in his forthcoming biennial budget to the City of Richmond for the development, creation, and enhancement of the Slavery and Freedom Heritage Site in Richmond. The proposed funding continues the governor’s commitment to strengthening Virginia’s tourism industry, which is a major revenue and job-driver in the Commonwealth.
