Christine Carrillo to present ‘Trumpet and Friends’ at Bridgewater College


bridgewaterBridgewater College music professor Christine Carrillo will present “Trumpet and Friends” at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, in the Carter Center for Worship and Music at Bridgewater College.

For the recital, trumpeter Carrillo will be joined by members of the Bridgewater and James Madison University music departments.

Joining Carrillo from Bridgewater College are Dr. Larry Taylor, associate professor of music, and adjunct instructors of music Richard Adams, Elizabeth Brightbill and Eleanor Graham. Carillo’s husband Chris, associate professor of music at JMU, will also participate in the program.

Carrillo will present “Sinfonia con tromba G.8” by Giuseppi Torelli, “Rose Variations” by Robert Russell Bennett and “Konzertante Suite” by Helge Jung.

The recital also includes “Two Portraits: Psalm” by Joseph Turrin and “Murmurs” by Chris Hendricks.

Carrillo, assistant professor of music, earned a D.M.A. from the University of Texas-Austin. She previously served on the faculties of James Madison University; Texas A&M University-Kingsville, where she was a two-time recipient of the Chancellor’s Teaching Excellence Award; The Victoria College and the Austin Independent School District. As a Conn-Selmer trumpet artist, Carrillo has given performances at Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and the City Recital Hall Angel Place in Sydney, Australia.

The recital is free and open to the public.

Bridgewater College is a private, four-year liberal arts college located in the Central Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Founded in 1880, it was the state’s first private, coeducational college. Today, Bridgewater College is home to approximately 1,850 undergraduate students.
