The Park to Park Half Marathon will take place on Saturday April 27 in Waynesboro and Augusta County. Because of the large crowd of 600 participants, the Waynesboro Police Department & the Augusta County Sheriff’s Department will be positioned throughout the 13-mile race course to ensure all race participants and vehicle traffic remain safe.

Intermittent traffic restrictions on Interstate 64 between Charlottesville and Waynesboro will resume next week during operations to remove unstable soil from Afton Mountain above the highway at milepost 100.3 in Albemarle County.

Two staff members in the Staunton-Augusta-Waynesboro Region have moved into new roles with the Valley Program for Aging Services. Former SAW Director of Senior Services Jenn Chestnut has been promoted to the role of Chief Administrative Officer for VPAS, and will oversee daily operations of the organization over all four regions. Former Waynesboro Senior Center Director Janice Gentry was then promoted into the Director of Senior Services position for the SAW Region. This leaves an open position in the Waynesboro Senior Center Director role. Applications are being accepted from qualified candidates until May 3.

The Wildlife Center of Virginia, a leading teaching and research hospital for native wildlife, will release a Bald Eagle on Thursday, April 25 at 2:00 p.m. at the Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge in Virginia Beach.

The Shenandoah Valley Art Center, during the month of May, is exhibiting the artwork of Kristin Reiber Harris which explores printmaking, bookmaking, and collage. One series features large woodcuts of plants reflected in water and celebrates the object as no more real than the reflection.

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program operated by the Community Action Partnership of Staunton, Augusta and Waynesboro expanded services this year and with the help of over two dozen volunteers filed just over 250 federal and state returns. This service saved area consumers approximately $50,800 based on the average cost of $200 a return at a commercial preparation site.

Barefoot Puppet returns to WTA’s Gateway with Dreamtime on Friday, April 26. The performance is inspired by a collection of Aboriginal folk tales from Australia. A unique feature of the Barefoot Puppet performances is an opportunity for the audience to see how the puppets are made and how they work. The public performances are at 4 pm and 6 pm at 329 West Main in Downtown Waynesboro.

John Hardy, the acclaimed actor, playwright, director and former Artistic Associate at Virginia’s Barter Theatre, will return to WTA’s Gateway on Saturday, April 27 in his one-person drama Rattlesnake. Hardy plays sixteen roles in the drama with only a few pieces of furniture of props to highlight the action. It is a real tour de force for the accomplished actor. The 8 pm performance is at 329 West Main in Downtown Waynesboro.
