Top Rope Promotions announced this week that it will stage its first wrestling extravaganza on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013 at the Anderson Coliseum at the Virginia Horse Center in Lexington, Va. The main event features former WWE superstars fka Goldust and fka “The Masterpiece” Chris Masters. The tag-team main event pits “The American Patriots,” “Hacksaw Jim Duggan and Michael Hayes, against “The Brotherhood,” Daivari and Mohammad Akbar. TNA Knockouts champion Tara will defend her title against former WWE Diva fka Katie Lea Burchill. Micro Championship Wrestling champion Meatball will defend his title against former MCW champ Short Sleeve Sampson.

Life has slowed down for Ellen Schwartz and Roger Bruno, by design. “We don’t have to worry anymore about things like, How will this sound if Barbra Streisand were singing it?” said Schwartz, who with Bruno, her husband, performs in the band Too Human, which will play at the Gateway Theatre in Downtown Waynesboro on Friday, Oct. 26.

A 15-year-old out on a joyride in the family van tried to elude police on residential Waynesboro streets, eventually hitting two parked cars and ending up on a medivac helicopter for the treatment of serious injuries.

Hosted by Kevin Chisnell, Mojo Saturday Night has established itself as a magnet for Blues lovers from Central Virginia. The evening starts at 8 pm at 329 West Main at WTA’s Gateway. The October River City Radio Hour will have as it special guest Chapman Stick player extraordinaire, Flint Blade. Described as ‘an innovative solo musician from South Florida’, Blade will share the Radio Hour stage with the Boogie Kings, Marsha Howard and the River City Players. The 6:30 and 8 pm performances are at WTA’s Gateway, 329 West Main in Downtown Waynesboro. Doors open at 6 pm.

After a month-long vote, the community has spoken. With over 360 ballots cast in person at area libraries and online, the clear winner for 2013’s One Book One Community selection is Bill Bryson’s A Walk in the Woods: Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail. Bryson’s book brought in 33% of the votes and edged out four others to become the 2013 selection.
