The Farm Market Fresh for Seniors program will be held in the SAW Region again this year. This program gives eligible older adults $40 in coupons to purchase fresh, locally grown fruits, vegetables, and cut herbs at the Staunton, Verona, and Waynesboro Farmer’s Markets this summer. In addition to supporting senior nutrition, the program also supports local farmers and farmers’ markets.

The process to obtain historic designation for the Bath Community Senior Center building, the former John Wesley United Methodist Church, has progressed another step forward. Beth Scripps, Preservation Planner and Research Historian with Frazier Associates architectural firm, visited Bath County on May 14.

The SWAG Writers (Staunton, Waynesboro, and Augusta Group of the Virginia Writers Club) Reading Series continues with a reading by novelists Betsy Ashton (Smith Mountain Lake, VA), Mollie Cox Bryan (Waynesboro, VA), and Sarah Kennedy (Lexington, VA).

The Virginia Department of Transportation’s emergency project on Interstate 64 at Afton Mountain will resume on Monday, May 20 and continue through Thursday, May 23. Intermittent closures of I-64 will begin at 8:30 a.m. each day and continue throughout the day.

The following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton VDOT transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties, Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke.

The WWRC Foundation will host a free exhibit of classic and antique cars from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, on the grounds at the Woodrow Wilson Rehabilitation Center. The show will feature vehicles with assistive technology for drivers with disabilities as well as more than 35 vintage cars from five local clubs, including Corvair, Corvette, Model A, Mustang, and the Waynesboro-Staunton Chapter of the Antique Automobile Club of America.

One of the hallmarks of the Earl Hamner Jr. Theatre is its systematic development of new scripts. Although the theatre space in Nellysford was closed last fall, the Hamner has continued its Virginia Playwrights and Screenwriters Initiative (VPSI) under the direction of its Artistic Director Boomie Pedersen and joined with WTA’s Gateway to present a new series of developing scripts.

Kevin Chisnell closes out his popular monthly show, Mojo Saturday Night, with Erin Lundsford and The Smokey Bandits. He discovered the group at the last Waynesboro Chili, Blues and Brews Festival and was impressed by the response of the audience that did not want them to leave the stage. The May performance of Mojo Saturday nights is at 8 pm on May 18. Doors opening at 7:30pm.
