U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., made the following statement today in Waynesboro regarding the ongoing unrest in Egypt:
“It’s just a very difficult situation. Obviously the U.S. needs to take steps to encourage the military that there has to be a transition to the democracy that the Egyptian people did not feel was being done. But the violence that we’ve seen over the last couple of days basically goes backwards, so we need to exercise our persuasion and leadership to get them to respect people’s civil rights, all parties, all interests there, and bring some stability and peace.”
