The Virginia Department of Transportation’s emergency project on Interstate 64 at Afton Mountain will resume on Monday, May 6. The work involves removal of an area of unstable soil from Afton Mountain above the highway at milepost 100.3 in Albemarle County.

U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine joined Roanoke Mayor Dave Bowers and members of the local business community today to tour the city’s downtown and discuss economic development in the region. During the discussion, Kaine expressed his support for the Marketplace Fairness Act that will level the playing field for small businesses in Roanoke and across Virginia that are a major source of job creation.

Robin Sullenberger announced he will retire as of August 16 from the Shenandoah Valley Partnership. Mr. Sullenberger has served as CEO for the Partnership for thirteen years, taking the position in 2000.

Two of the Valley’s newest bands bring their unique take on bluegrass to WTA’s Gateway on May 11, 2013. Both Bourbon Barrel Congress and Many Nights Ahead were born in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley and share a common bluegrass heritage, but each uses that lineage to move to a style of their own.

The Three Sillies will bring two evenings of fun for the whole family to WTA’s Gateway on Friday and Saturday, May 3 and 4. The show is an original theatrical production created by Boomie Pedersen, the Artistic Director of the Earl Hamner, Jr. Theatre. The performances are at 7 pm at 329 West Main in downtown Waynesboro.
