The No. 7 Virginia baseball team scored four runs in the 11th inning and then held off a furious North Carolina rally in the bottom of the inning to claim a wild 8-7 victory over the second-ranked Tar Heels Saturday afternoon in front of a sellout crowd of 4,100 at Boshamer Stadium in Chapel Hill. Virginia (45-9, 22-8 ACC) won the series, two games to one, and captured eight of its 10 ACC series this year.

The statewide guide to all that is ‘best’ in Virginia from dining to shopping to doing, Best of Virginia 2013 lists the more than 1,200 winners from Virginia Living’s second annual Best of Virginia Readers’ Survey conducted in January. More than 25,000 votes were cast in 400 categories covering the best in arts, culture and entertainment, living and recreation, shopping and services, and food and drink across the state.

In a game that was played in a steady mist throughout the night, the Cavaliers (39-8) recorded 14 hits while eight of their nine position starters earned at least one hit.

Nick Howard (So., Olney, Md.) went a career-best 5-for-5 and drove in three runs to lift the No. 5 Virginia baseball team to a 6-2 win over Richmond Tuesday evening at Davenport Field. Howard is the first Cavalier to record five hits in a game since Stephen Bruno on April 21, 2012, at Duke.
