The seventh-ranked Virginia baseball team swept a doubleheader against fifth-ranked Florida State Saturday at Davenport Field, running away with a 9-2 victory in game one before one-hitting the Seminoles, 2-0, in the nightcap. Virginia (34-6, 15-5 ACC) swept a doubleheader for the first time in program history against Florida State (31-8, 13-7) while clinching its sixth ACC series win in seven tries this year.

Gov. Bob McDonnell: Major transportation projects moving forward

Gov. Bob McDonnell announced on Thursday that the Commonwealth Transportation Board advanced over $150 million in long-sought transportation improvement projects at its meeting in Richmond yesterday. These projects are being funded as a result of the Governor’s 2011 Transportation Funding and Reform Package.

Report: Virginia earns ‘A’ grade from small businesses for second year in a row

Down 7-2 in the sixth inning, Virginia (32-6) rallied to score its 14th come-from-behind win of the season.

Scott Silverstein (R-Sr., Olney, Md) allowed a run and two hits over seven strong innings as the fourth-ranked Virginia baseball team cruised to a 7-2 victory at No. 17 Georgia Tech Saturday afternoon at Russ Chandler Stadium in Atlanta. Silverstein (6-0) struck out nine and walked two in tying his career-long effort as UVa. (31-5, 13-4 ACC) evened the series at a game apiece.

Mike Papi (So., Tunkhannock, Pa.) hit a two-out grand slam off Wake Forest closer Connor Kaden to give UVa a 7-6 lead, capping a five-run, ninth-inning comeback.
