Women’s basketball: Virginia plays at Boston College on Sunday

The Virginia women’s basketball team (13-12, 3-8 ACC) plays at Boston College (13-11, 1-10 ACC) on Sunday, Feb. 14 at 5 p.m.

The game will be televised live on the ACC Regional Sports Networks with Tom Werme and Debbie Antonelli calling the action. Additionally, all of the 2015-16 Virginia women’s basketball games – home and away – are available locally on NewsRadio 1070 AM and 98.9 FM WINA and streaming online at wina.com and VirginiaSports.com with Channing Poole calling the action.

Both Virginia and Boston College come into the contest on six-game losing streaks. The Cavaliers fell 91-57 to Syracuse on Thursday, UVA’s largest deficit of the season while BC is coming off a 74-63 loss at NC State. Virginia is 13-5 all-time against the Eagles and has won the last two meetings.

Virginia won last season’s meeting, 68-56, in Charlottesville but lost the last meeting in Chestnut Hill, 69-65 (Feb. 6, 2014). BC has a pair of players averaging in double figures, Kelly Hughes at 14.3 points per game and Mariella Fasoula at 14.0. Hughes also leads the team in rebounding at 5.9 per game.

Sophomore Mikayla Venson (Arlington, Va.) rebounded from an eight-point game against Virginia Tech, just her third single-digit scoring game of the season, to score a team-high 16 points against the Orange. Venson, who was 1-of-5 from long range against the Hokies, made three treys against Syracuse and matched her season-high with 10 attempts from beyond the arc. Venson is currently seventh in the ACC in scoring, averaging 15.1 points per game.

Sophomore Aliyah Huland El (Randolph, N.J.) had her first double-digit scoring game since Jan. 17 (at Georgia Tech) when she put up 15 points against Syracuse. Huland El also led the team in rebounding, the second time this season, with six boards.

Junior Breyana Mason (Woodbridge, Va.) continued her consistent play by contributing 12 points, her eighth-straight game scoring in double figures. Mason has moved up to third on the team in scoring, averaging 10.3 points per game. Mason trails Venson and junior guard Faith Randolph (Derwood, Md.), who has missed the last nine games after breaking her thumb in the Notre Dame game (Jan. 07).

Virginia plays at No. 12 Louisville on Thursday, Feb. 18 at 7 p.m. The Cavaliers will return home to host Clemson on Sunday, Feb. 21 at 1 p.m.
