You’ve probably heard about the drones the size of SUVs flying over New Jersey, and then Pennsylvania and upstate New York, and apparently, also in Northern Virginia.
The New Jersey drone sightings are, like the ones sighted in Northern Virginia, in the vicinity of Quantico, in the area of a U.S. military base.
The New Jersey area where the drones have been seen is also near one of Donald Trump’s golf courses, for what that’s worth, likely not much.
Back in October, ahead of the election, there were several reports of unauthorized drones in restricted airspace over Norfolk and Hampton, in the area of Naval Station Norfolk and Langley Air Force Base.
The recent drone sightings over Virginia have come from Stafford County, King George County and Spotsylvania County.
The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office has even gone on the record on the drones.
“The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office has been in contact with federal law enforcement agencies regarding the drones and they are aware of the recent activity,” the sheriff’s office posted on its Facebook page.
The official word on the drones from the outgoing Biden administration:
“We have no evidence at this time that the reported drone sightings pose a national security or a public safety threat, or have a foreign nexus.”
That was John Kirby, the senior national security communications advisor to President Biden.
Everybody is calling bullS$% on the official denials that there’s anything to this, including a group of U.S. senators.
“These drones have been observed maneuvering near critical infrastructure and sensitive locations, including reservoirs and military installations,” Kristen Gillibrand, D-N.Y., Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., Cory Booker, D-N.J., and Andy Kim, D-N.J., wrote in a letter to the Department of Homeland Security, FBI and FAA.
“The potential safety and security risks posed by these drones in civilian areas is especially pertinent considering recent drone incursions at sensitive military sites in and outside of the continental United States over the past year. Protecting civilian infrastructure, safety, and privacy as well as military assets and personnel will require a comprehensive response from Congress and the executive branch,” the senators wrote.
A reporter for the NewsNation cable-TV news network, Rich McHugh, who lives in New Jersey, said Friday in a hit with anchor Elizabeth Vargas that he didn’t “pay much credence” to the reports, until he saw the drones for himself.
“If this is not our military, then it’s even more scary,” McHugh said. “These things look like they are fixed-wing, and they have multiple lights. I’m not really sure how to process what I saw last night. Both the photographer and I were kind of stunned.”
Uh, oh.
