redskins-helmet1Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins rallied Washington from a 24-0 first-half deficit, completing the historic comeback with a 6-yard touchdown pass to Jordan Reed with 24 seconds left to lift the ‘Skins to a 31-30 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday at FedEx Field.

Cousins was 33-for-40 passing for 317 yards and three touchdowns, and added another touchdown on the ground, an 8-yard run with 4:26 to go in the second quarter that got Washington (3-4) on the board, down 24-7.

A Cousins-to-Ryan Grant 3-yard TD pass on the first drive of the third quarter cut the margin to 24-14. Then Washington successfully executed an onside kick, and drove 51 yards in seven plays, culminating in a 3-yard TD pass from Cousins to Reed to make it 24-21.

The teams traded field goals in the fourth quarter, and then Tampa Bay (2-4) had a chance to put the game away, driving to the Redskins 1 before the D stiffened and forced a Connor Barth 21-yard field goal that made it 30-24.

Cousins took over from there, getting the ball at the Washington 20 after the kickoff, completing eight straight passes to move the ball to the Tampa Bay 6, before connecting with Reed on a third-down pass.

The Bucs outgained the Redskins 479-355. #1 draft pick Jameis Winston was 21-for-29 passing for 297 yards and two touchdowns, and Doug Martin had 136 yards on the ground on 19 carries.

Reed had 11 catches on 13 targets for Washington for 72 yards and two touchdowns.

The rally from a 24-point deficit was the biggest comeback win in Redskins team history.
