The Waynesboro Police Department has arrested a wanted man who had been a fugitive Augusta County since November after he disregarded a traffic barricade at an accident scene Saturday night.
On Saturday, Jan. 11 at 11:30 p.m., officers along with the Waynesboro Fire Department and Waynesboro First Aid Crew responded to the 1300 block of East Main Street for a report of a single-vehicle accident involving an overturned 2003 Honda Accord.
Tracy Allyn England, 45, of Charlottesville, was traveling east on East Main Street when she struck the curb and flipped her vehicle. She was uninjured, as was her male passenger, and subsequently charged with reckless driving.
While investigating the crash, officers had closed off the eastbound lanes of main street. Paul Douglas Via, 38, no fixed address, drove around one of the officers at the barricaded street before he was stopped approaching the crash scene.
Via told the officer that he wanted to offer his assistance. Via, who had been drinking, was driving a vehicle with incorrect license plates on it. A check of Via’s information indicated he had a suspended driver’s license and was wanted by Augusta County on a capias.
Officers arrested him for the capias and charged him for driving on a suspended license and operating an improperly registered vehicle. He is being held without bond at Middle River Regional Jail.
