VMI Baseball: Keydets lose at Western Carolina, 14-5

vmi baseballMatthew Koehler had four hits Saturday as Western Carolina University defeated the visiting VMI baseball team 14-5 in a Southern Conference game.

The Catamounts scored 10 runs in the first three innings.

Junior Jon Clines went 2-4 for VMI while red-shirt freshman Will Knight had a hit and two walks. Callen Nuccio had a hit and a walk and Jake Hollifield and Jake Huggins each had a hit and an RBI.

Jacob Luchansky threw two scoreless innings out of the bullpen, striking out four.

Chase Walter, the SoCon Pitcher of the Week last week, earned the win on the hill for WCU (18-20/7-10 SoCon). He went seven innings, scattering eight hits and two walks while striking out 10 with two earned runs.

VMI (11-32/6-11 SoCon) and Western Carolina will square off Sunday at 1 p.m. in the series finale.
