Freshman guard Malcolm Brogdon (Norcross, Ga.) of the Virginia men’s basketball team will miss the remainder of the 2011-12 season because of a foot injury, Virginia head coach Tony Bennett announced on Tuesday (March 6).
Brogdon has a broken bone in his left foot and will undergo surgery on Wednesday (March 7). His rehabilitation period is uncertain.
Brogdon, who missed the Cavaliers’ last two games, played in Virginia’s first 28 games this season, starting one. He averaged 6.7 points and 2.8 rebounds a game, while shooting 39.6 percent (63-159) from the field and 80.0 percent (40-50) from the free-throw line. He scored in double figures five times.
Brogdon scored a season-high 16 points in Virginia’s 70-58 victory over No. 14 Michigan on Nov. 29. His scoring high in an Atlantic Cost Conference game this season was 14 points in UVa’s 71-44 win over Maryland on Feb. 18.
