UVA Basketball: Preseason game at JPJ with Richmond announced for Oct. 9

UVA Basketball has added a second game to the preseason schedule, set for Friday, Oct. 9, at JPJ, with Richmond as the opponent.

We already knew about the unique outdoor preseason game with Vanderbilt at a tennis stadium in Charleston, S.C., on Sunday, Sept. 27.

This time last year, the team was gearing up for a preseason schedule that included Vandy and Villanova, two programs that went on to earn NCAA Tournament berths in March.

Richmond finished 15-17 last season, going 5-13 in the A-10, which got two squads into the Big Dance – Saint Louis and VCU.

Tip time for the game with UR is 7 p.m.

This one is being treated as a moneymaker – UVA Athletics reported in a release that 2026-27 men’s basketball season ticket holders “will receive their quantity of seats within their season ticket package at no additional cost for the Virginia-Richmond exhibition.”

Season ticket holders can also purchase additional general admission tickets at $18 starting Friday at 10 a.m.

Courtside season ticket members will receive their number of seats within their season ticket package in the same process.

JPJ suite holders will receive separate communication from the Virginia Athletics Foundation regarding suite reservations.

All other seats, except for courtside, will be general admission seating for $18.

Tickets will go on sale online at uvatix.com beginning Friday at 10 a.m.

From what I’m hearing, they can use every dollar they can get their hands on over there, given the dramatic increase in expenses, from revenue sharing and NIL.
