UVA Basketball: ‘Hoos dominant in 94-68 blowout win at Georgia Tech

Georgia Tech likes to play fast. Virginia showed Wednesday night in Atlanta that, it does, too.

“We’re trying to play a little bit faster, you know, getting back to earlier in the season. You know, as you get into conference play, things tend to slow down a little bit, and, you know, can get really tight. We certainly had our fair share of tight games recently, and you have to try to find ways to get easy baskets in conference play, and our transition, you know, can be a weapon, if we’re willing to use it,” said UVA coach Ryan Odom, after his team’s 94-68 win at Georgia Tech on Wednesday night.

The tempo: pinball machine pace – 76 possessions for Virginia, their most in a 40-minute game since the Marshall game, a 104-78 win, back in November.

The ‘Hoos (23-3, 11-2 ACC) got 28 points on fast breaks, 20 in the first half, which ended with Virginia up 59-27.

At one point, UVA led 39-7.

Georgia Tech coach Damon Stoudamire, who is almost certainly done at the end of his third season – his team dropped to 11-16, 2-12 in the ACC, with the loss, and the Yellow Jackets have now lost eight straight – he used three of his five timeouts in the first 12 minutes in hopes of stemming the tidal wave.

There’s not much to analyze here; this was a beatdown.
