Sam Harris hit two of Virginia’s four homers on a 5-for-5 day at the plate, powering a 16-2 run-rule win over ODU on Tuesday at The Dish.
UVA (23-7, 7-5 ACC) had only scored six runs on 13 hits in a series loss at Boston College over the weekend.
In tonight’s win over ODU (13-15): 16 runs on 14 hits.
Virginia scored four in the bottom of the first, highlighted by a two-out, three-run homer from Kyle Johnson, his fourth of the season – on a ball that traveled 419 feet, hitting the top of The Clubhouse in left-center.
Harris’s first homer was a 397-foot shot to left-center in the fourth.
AJ Gracia hit a 3-2, two-out pitch 398 feet into the night in right for a grand slam in the sixth, and Harris, on the next pitch, hit his second homer of the night, and 10th of the season.
The winning pitcher on the staff night was Noah Yoder (3-0, 0.53 ERA), who struck out three and walked three in two scoreless, hitless innings of relief, with a fastball sitting at 95-96 and touching 98.
Jayden Stroman gave up both ODU runs and three of the four Monarch hits in 1.1 innings as the starter.
Stroman has good stuff – a fastball that sits at 95 and touches 97-98.
I was also impressed with the stuff from Joe Colucci, who struck out two in a scoreless inning, with a fastball that sits 95.
Next up for Virginia: #7 Florida State (22-6, 7-2 ACC), for a three-game series at The Dish that starts on Thursday, with a 5 p.m. ET first pitch.
Bad news for FSU: they lost star first baseman Myles Bailey after suffering a gruesome ankle injury in an 12-11 at Duke on Saturday.
Bailey underwent surgery and is out for the season.
Huge loss for the ’Noles here: Bailey was putting up video game numbers – 13 homers, 33 RBIs, .363/.582/.913 slash line, 1.494 OPS in 26 games in 2026.
