Toronto blasts Baltimore in series opener, 13-3

baltimore oriolesMichael Saunders hit three homers to power Toronto to an easy 13-3 win at Baltimore Friday night.

Saunders (13, 14, 15) hit a three-run homer in the first off Orioles starter Mike Wright (3-4, 6.12 ERA), then went deep twice off reliever Ubaldo Jimenez, in the fourth and sixth.

Saunders drove in eight runs on the night for the Blue Jays (39-31).

Josh Donaldson (17) and Justin Smoak (7) also homered for Toronto.

Wright lasted three and two-thirds innings for the O’s (38-28), giving up eight runs on six hits, striking out three and walking one.

Jimenez (3-7, 7.34 ERA), relegated to the bullpen after struggling the past two seasons as a starter, gave up five runs on four hits in two and a third innings, striking out four and walking two.

Ryan Flaherty (.219/.303/.314) hit his second homer of the season for Baltimore.
