We don’t want to be more like Staunton. Look at the numbers. If anything, they should want to be more like us.
The numbers don’t lie. Our economy is bigger – much bigger – than Staunton’s. According to taxable-sales figures from the Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service at the University of Virginia, the Waynesboro economy passed the $400 million mark in 2009. Total economic activity in Staunton in 2009: $328.4 million. Which is barely more than was registered in Staunton in 2000, incidentally ($326.6 million).
