Temporary traffic signals will replace existing signals at two Route 29 intersections

Temporary traffic signals will be installed next week at two intersections on Route 29 to accommodate construction on the Route 29 widening project.

The existing signals at Ashwood Boulevard and North Hollymead Drive will be removed and replaced with temporary signals while the roadway is widened. The work is scheduled to begin Monday and will take about a week. Installation of the signal poles will require intermittent lane closures. While the span wires that support the signal heads are installed Route 29 will be closed completely. All the work will be done during nighttime hours, between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.

The temporary signals will remain in place until construction nears completion, at which time they will be replaced with pole-mounted permanent signals that will control traffic on the newly widened, three-lane section of Route 29 between Polo Grounds Road and Hollymead Town Center. The intersection at North Hollymead Drive will include a crosswalk for pedestrians and the signal will have a protected phase to allow pedestrians to cross the intersection.
