Donald Trump, coming out, hard, today in favor of data centers, and suggesting that those who are against them – which is, most of us – just want to be “backwards and poor” – it’s almost like the guy is going out of his way to try to lose the midterms.
“The only reason that communities throughout the U.S.A. should not want Data Centers is if they want to end up being backwards and poor. If they want to be successful and rich, with far lower taxes and jobs all over the place, let Data Reign,” Trump wrote on Truth Social on Monday.
“The good news is that there are plenty of other places that want them,” the POTUS went on in the post. “If we kill the Golden Goose, you will only have yourselves to blame. China could not be happier with this anti Data Center movement. Actually, they can’t believe it is happening!”
Whoo, boy.
Here are the headlines from recent polling on data centers, and how much of a millstone Trump is hanging on the necks of Republicans running for re-election to the House and the Senate:
- 75 percent of Americans oppose local data center development
- A Gallup poll shows that 71 percent of Americans oppose building AI data centers in their local communities.
- Only 7 percent to 24 percent of Americans strongly favor these local construction projects.
Specific to Virginia, we had a Public Policy Polling survey showing that 65 percent of respondents said they would oppose a large data center being built in their community.
We need to get Ben Cline and John McGuire on the record on what Trump is saying about how we need to have these things in our backyards.
