Amherst High School star quarterback Peter Rose will not be playing football at Virginia Tech.

Tech football coach Frank Beamer announced today that the school was withdrawing its scholarship offer to Rose, the 2007 Group AA player of the year.

Rose, 18, was charged along with six other students following a 10-month investigation at Amherst High School uncovered an alleged drug operation.

Rose faces two felony counts of distribution of marijuana and two counts of distribution of drugs within 1,000 feet of a school.

“Each scholarship offer we make is contingent upon a number of requirements, one of which is maintaining the high standards required of each recruit in their community, school and on the football field,” Beamer said. “I am disappointed that this action was necessary.”

Beamer said that there would be no further comment on the matter.
