Surry County has been awarded $959,752 in federal community project funding to support the county’s Water System Upgrade Project.

The project will replace and upgrade water wells and water infrastructure at the Surry County School Complex.

The Water System Upgrade Project will help replace and upgrade water wells at the Surry County School Complex, where the county’s three schools are located.

The project will allow the county to connect the public school water system to the neighboring industrial park water system to create a combined system that will increase capacity and foster economic development.

“These upgrades will empower Surry County to meet its current needs and expand its capacity for future demands,” said Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan, who represents Virginia’s District 4, and delivered the funding today. “I thank my local partners in Surry County for their efforts, and I look forward to our continued collaboration.”

Chairman of the Surry County Board of Supervisors Robert L. Elliott said the board is committed to expanding and enhancing the county’s infrastructure.

“Our Combined Water System project will foster economic development by upgrading our water systems increasing water capacity, which will ultimately support rural economic development. Many thanks to Congresswoman McClellan, her staff, and county staff for the work done to improve our great county,” Elliott said.

McClellan successfully secured the $959,752 in Community Project Funding through the Fiscal Year 2024 appropriations process.
