Five juveniles escaped the Commonwealth Center for Child and Adolescents in Staunton Monday night but were quickly apprehended.
The juveniles, ages 14 to 17, were taken into custody within 40 minutes of leaving the youth mental-health facility at approximately 6:48 p.m.
One juvenile female has been charged with assault for biting a security guard.
Multiple law enforcement agencies were involved in the search for the teens.
According to a Virginia State Police spokesperson, all five juveniles face charges.
In addition to the assault charge against a female, two juvenile males were charged with obstruction of justice and two juvenile males were charged with destruction of property.
The juveniles were processed at the Shenandoah Valley Juvenile Center in Staunton.
No details were provided on how the juveniles escaped the facility, operated by the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services.
Referrals to the facility are generally made through Community Services Boards, or CSBs.
According to its website, the CCCA has 48 acute inpatient psychiatric hospital beds.
